PVCC Student: LaTrina Candia One Teacher Can Make a World of Difference S tudent, Veteran, Mother Originally from Dallas, Texas, LaTrina served eight years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in North Carolina, Korea and Italy during her tours. After leaving the Army, LaTrina began working in the Washington, D.C. area. She said that she and her husband wanted a "nice house and yard in a quieter area" so he took a job in Charlottesville and they moved to the area in 2007, with LaTrina telecommuting to work. They had a baby boy in 2009. Why She Chose Her Field of Study LaTrina initially enrolled in PVCC to gain IT skills that were becoming required for her job, but was inspired to pursue a career in math after taking a class with Assistant Professor of Mathematics Diane Valade. "She makes math understandable and interesting," said LaTrina.
